Yuletide Origins unite with Modern Ascension
Our Rebirth Aligned with The Sun King
The date varies from December 20 to December 23 depending on the year in the Gregorian calendar. Yule is also known as the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere and the summer solstice in the southern hemisphere due to the seasonal differences.
Yule, (pronounced EWE-elle) is when the dark half of the year relinquishes to the light half. Starting the next morning at sunrise, the sun climbs just a little higher and stays a little longer in the sky each day. Known as Solstice Night, or the longest night of the year, the sun's "rebirth" was celebrated with much joy. On this night, our ancestors celebrated the rebirth of the Oak King, the Sun King, the Giver of Life that warmed the frozen Earth. From this day forward, the days would become longer.
Bonfires were lit in the fields, and crops and trees were "wassailed" with toasts of spiced cider. Children were escorted from house to house with gifts of clove spiked apples and oranges which were laid in baskets of evergreen boughs and wheat stalks dusted with flour. The apples and oranges represented the sun. The boughs were symbolic of immortality (evergreens were sacred to the Celts because they did not "die" thereby representing the eternal aspect of the Divine). The wheat stalks portrayed the harvest, and the flour was accomplishment of triumph, light, and life. Holly and ivy not only decorated the outside, but also the inside of homes, in hopes Nature Sprites would come and join the celebration. A sprig of Holly was kept near the door all year long as a constant invitation for good fortune to visit tthe residents. Mistletoe was also hung as decoration. It represented the seed of the Divine, and at Midwinter, the Druids would travel deep into the forest to harvest it.
The ceremonial Yule log was the highlight of the Solstice festival. In accordance to tradition, the log must either have been harvested from the householder's land, or given as a gift... it must never have been bought. Once dragged into the house and placed in the fireplace it was decorated in seasonal greenery, doused with cider or ale, and dusted with flour before set ablaze by a piece of last years log, (held onto for just this purpose). The log would burn throughout the night, then smolder for 12 days after before being ceremonially put out. Ash is the traditional wood of the Yule log. It is the sacred world tree of the Teutons, known as Yggdrasil. An herb of the Sun, Ash brings light into the hearth at the Solstice.
A different type of Yule log, and perhaps one more suitable for modern practitioners would be the type that is used as a base to hold three candles. Find a smaller branch of oak or pine, and flatten one side so it sets upright. Drill three holes in the top side to hold red, green, and white (season), green, gold, and black (the Sun God), or white, red, and black (the Great Goddess). Continue to decorate with greenery, red and gold bows, rosebuds, cloves, and dust with flour.
Many customs created around Yule are identified with Christmas today. If you decorate your home with a Yule tree, holly or candles, you are following some of these old traditions. The Yule log, (usually made from a piece of wood saved from the previous year) is burned in the fire to symbolize the Newborn Sun/Son.
Deities of Yule:
All Newborn Gods, Sun Gods, Mother Goddesses, and Triple Goddesses. The best known would be the Dagda, and Brighid, the daughter of the Dagda. Brighid taught the smiths the arts of fire tending and the secrets of metal work. Brighid's flame, like the flame of the new light, pierces the darkness of the spirit and mind, while the Dagda's cauldron assures that Nature will always provide for all the children.
Symbolism of Yule:
Rebirth of the Sun, The longest night of the year, The Winter Solstice, Introspect, Planning for the Future.
Symbols of Yule:
Yule log, or small Yule log with 3 candles, evergreen boughs or wreaths, holly, mistletoe hung in doorways, gold pillar candles, baskets of clove studded fruit, a simmering pot of wassail, poinsettias, christmas cactus.

History of Yule & Other Winter Holidays
A Festival of Light
Many cultures have winter festivals that are in fact celebrations of light. In addition to Christmas, there's Hanukkah with its brightly lit menorahs, Kwanzaa candles, and any number of other holidays. The Pagan holiday called Yule takes place on the day of the winter solstice, around December 21. On that day (or close to it), an amazing thing happens in the sky. The earth's axis tilts away from the sun in the Northern Hemisphere, and the sun reaches at its greatest distance from the equatorial plane. As a festival of the Sun, the most important part of any Yule celebration is light -- candles, bonfires, and more.
Origins of Yule:In the Northern hemisphere, the winter solstice has been celebrated for millenia. The Norse peoples viewed it as a time for much feasting, merrymaking, and, if the Icelandic sagas are to be believed, a time of sacrifice as well. Traditional customs such as the Yule log, the decorated tree, and wassailing can all be traced back to Norse origins.
Celtic Celebrations of Winter:The Celts of the British Isles celebrated midwinter as well. Although little is known about the specifics of what they did, many traditions persist. According to the writings of Pliny the Elder, this is the time of year in which Druid priests sacrificed a white bull and gathered mistletoe in celebration.
Roman Saturnalia:Few cultures knew how to party like the Romans. Saturnalia was a festival of general merrymaking and debauchery held around the time of the winter solstice. This week-long party was held in honor of the god Saturn, and involved sacrifices, gift-giving, special privileges for slaves, and a lot of feasting. Although this holiday was partly about giving presents, more importantly, it was to honor an agricultural god.
Welcoming the Sun Through the Ages:Four thousand years ago, the Ancient Egyptians took the time to celebrate the daily rebirth of Horus - the god of the Sun. As their culture flourished and spread throughout Mesopotamia, other civilizations decided to get in on the sun-welcoming action. They found that things went really well... until the weather got cooler, and crops began to die. Each year, this cycle of birth, death and rebirth took place, and they began to realize that every year after a period of cold and darkness, the Sun did indeed return.
Winter festivals were also common in Greece and Rome, as well as in the British Isles. When a new religion called Christianity popped up, the new hierarchy had trouble converting the Pagans, and as such, folks didn't want to give up their old holidays. Christian churches were built on old Pagan worship sites, and Pagan symbols were incorporated into the symbolism of Christianity. Within a few centuries, the Christians had everyone worshipping a new holiday celebrated on December 25.
In some traditions of Wicca and Paganism, the Yule celebration comes from the Celtic legend of the battle between the young Oak King and the Holly King. The Oak King, representing the light of the new year, tries each year to usurp the old Holly King, who is the symbol of darkness. Re-enactment of the battle is popular in some Wiccan rituals.
A Personal Reflection of Rebirth
It's been an incredible year, from closing doors that I thought would always be open to opening new unexpected ones. From joyous Twin Flame love and good relationships that continue to grow, a lively year of events with the community both spiritual and adventurous, warm and much needed loving reunions with friends and family, new opportunities in the earthly world as well as abundance and prosperity showering adoration on me as I aligned my soul with the divine. It's truly been an incredible year, so much healing, growth and love to share.
For those of us that have willingly and humbly submitted to the purging, rebirth and ascension process that has now reached the sequel in this universal trilogy that first started during the activation year of 2012, we're still profoundly in awe as the sequel initiates its cosmic procession for the entire year of 2014. The year of the water dragon is coming to an end, we feel that intensity, ferocity of a triple water inclination fading back down into a peaceful lulling disposition of oceanic dreamworld, and for those that have heeded the call of Poseidon as our minds and hearts were filled with Neptune, we're humbly grateful and most allured into the next phase of this universal cosmic expansion.
Closing Doors is a Purging Transition
When we think we've found the one to share a life with, it's always a purging transition when one realizes that the dreams they once created are no longer capable of enduring for a lifetime, after seven very long, invaluable and at times loving years it was necessary for me to say goodbye to my former fiance of seven years and to move towards the direction of my own destiny, at times when we meet the paths align, and further down the road of life two people realize that those paths are no longer parallel, interwoven or remotely close to the soul that is alive within. After devoting years to helping my partner build a firm foundation to pursue his destiny in career, home and hearth, I discovered it was my time to shine six very long years later to pursue my dreams, once realized that unconditional love was not the foundation of his side of our relationship it was time for me to say goodbye, as much as I loved, appreciated and truly desired to move towards an incredible future together, when your love has a pension for self-hatred, self-destruction and a penchant for drug induced verbal and emotional violence as a woman that has seen the destruction and also lived it, I'm most grateful to realize in all my glory as I heal from environmental based Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that was diagnosed from a Breaking Bad/Sons of Anarchy Programmed Childhood to then finding myself in the same circumstance with my fiance, well Psychic Bella decided to take a huge slice of humble pie, an extra helping of strength and self-assurance and with the love, support and help of friends, family and now an incredible Twin Flame Unconditional love that truly was there throughout my darkest hours with nothing but love and support, it's definitely taken a tribe to raise this cosmic child back into the ethereal divinity of Transcendental Peace I'm profoundly moved and grateful looking down at my tattoos that translate to Awakening, & Tribute how could I not dedicate it to each and every one of you. The clients and friends that continue to reach higher and inspire me in turn to do the same, the love of my life that never ceases but finds daily new and profoundly soul moving ways to devote his love to and for me. To my incredible family that truly saved me when I was too weak, sick, exhausted and heartbroken to do it myself, you are the wings that allowed this phoenix to fly.
The Phoenix Learns to Fly, Yet Feathers are Constantly Growing In
After changing my external environment that was built on chaos, uncertainty and constant infliction of pain after trust building and healing was re-established, I can truly say I never knew how much I needed this brutal existential transformation. February 12, 2013 was the day he left, two days before Valentine's Day for most this would've been tragic, however for myself it truly felt like the day I picked to love, embrace and for once accept myself completely, inside and out....Unconditionally. As I entered my first official month at Fresno City College, and realized the incredible friends I had in my life that were always there, there was for once a certainty within myself that everything was for once going to be okay, the worries of my fiance dying from a drug overdose, or being homeless for the same addiction that prevented a consistent career, it was truly a profound and frightening breath of fresh air. To once be The Titan Atlas to no longer feel the weight of the universe on one's shoulders, it was incredulous.
As I found more of myself, the core of me locked away from years of trauma, I discovered how to laugh, how to truly be in the moment, even when the pain of the most severe Gia induced home-detox program ensued for months during the hardest classes of my life, I realized what it was to feel hell, see hell, allow it to consume me, spit me out and like the Ouroboros I devoured myself and consumed the former self only to relish as the rebirth and a new fresh skin was created out of porcelain scales of my own creation.
Along that path and dark journey I was supported, loved and desired and appreciated unconditionally by my Twin Flame and as the healing process continued throughout the year, together even in the most hellish states, His love never faltered, I'm more than capable of admitting that I was unable to be so true so strong in my devotion, as in those moments of full transformation from detox to brain damage repairing I tried so many times to leave, so many times to offer him a better life one without me, without this broken dam of an ocean that spilled forth like a massive tsunami to at times leave me consumed by the darkness, trauma and dissociation of the past. Instead of agreeing or worse what I've been used too adding salt to the already open soul wound, He held me close, professed the deepest sentiments of his soul to me assuring me that the only devastation his life could ever endure is being without me. Constantly telling me of his pride, love, devotion and profound awe, what a superhero I truly am, how strong, gorgeous, awe inspiring my soul inspires in his life every moment of every day, this fuel to my crimson fire, blazed like a wild fire all year long to allow me to share and profess the deepest sentiments of my still healing soul.
